Eagle Academy for Young Men

PROJECT DETAILS
Founded in 2004, The Eagle Academy for Young Men is one of four all-boy public high schools in the New York City system. Sponsored by the New York chapter of One Hundred Black Men, Inc., a community-based organization of African-American professionals, the school stresses academic excellence, leadership and character development. They also offer each student the opportunity to have a mentor to incorporate real life experiences as part of academic excellence. While the Eagle Academy initially shared space with the Bronx School for Law, Government, and Justice, when the academy wanted its own building, it turned to EW Howell Construction Group for the academy’s construction needs.
The Eagle Academy for Young Men project included new construction of a 70,000-square-foot, 4-story school serving students in sixth through twelfth grade. The replacement school provides much needed amenities including a library, a senate room equipped with teleconferencing capabilities, an orchestra room, an art room, a science lab, and multiple teaching spaces. The lower level of the school contains a gymnasium that also serves as a gathering space for community events. A full-service cafeteria also provides flexible-use space for community events.
